Chief Imam Of Lagos, Garuba Ibrahim Akinola, Is Dead
As at the time of filing this report, circumstances surrounding the death of the Lagos’ foremost cleric were still sketchy as none of the family members were ready to make a formal statement on the death of their patriarch.
Information gathered revealed that Imam Akinola died of undisclosed ailment at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital at about 5 pm, where he was being taken care of before he passed on.
He will be buried according to Islamic rite on Monday noon.
It gathered that the highly revered late Imam once worked with the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting before he was appointed the Chief Imam of Lagos.
He was regarded as one of the respected clerics by politicians in the successive governments.
Akinola will be remembered for fairness and boldness and thought-provoking sermons
He was a devout Muslim; humanist and bridge builder.
