Assault On Journalists: ADAPHAI Charges DSS Director To Call His Men To Order
A Non-governmental Organisation, Advocacy for Advancement of Peace and Harmony in Africa Initiative (ADAPHAI) has charged the Director General of Directorate of State Services(DSS), Lawal Musa Daura to call his men to order in Osun State, and stop further harassment of newsmen and residents alike.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Osun State Coordinator of the organisation, Mr Oladele Soyemi, the copy which was made available to CityMirrorNews on Tuesday.
According to the statement,” the attack on journalists within the dome of House of Assembly is not only an aberration, but completely defies every toga of civility and decency”.
The group maintained that no amount of provocation could have made the agency to act in such a degrading manner without being conscious of their status in the society.
“The manner in which the operatives of DSS conducted themselves at the State assembly is Osun was uncivilised and bestial in all intents, it is highly unbecoming of a sane security agency anywhere in the world.
“It is even worst when those officers allegedly acted under the influence of alcohol, with the show of rascality and hooliganism.
“The recap of the activities of the operatives in the state suggest that they lack necessary knowledge of their role as security agency and law enforcement agents.
“We quickly recall how these operatives masked themselves during the 2014 election in the state, with sporadic shootings in all the nooks and crannies of the state capital.
“We are confused that the secret agency has not been living up to its responsibilities to discover crime through intelligence gathering in the state, as many crimes have been reported by journalists without any input of the agency.
“Instead of this agency to concentrate on its statutory duty, it’s operatives continue to unleash terror on innocent residents and noble professionals.
“As we condemn this barbaric act, we suggest better orientation for these men and women in Osun and other parts of the country, agencies of this stature in other climes are decent and pragmatic, with healthy civil relations.
“Also, the situation where operative without any form of identification refuses to introduce him/herself is not only arrogant but primitive.
“We also suggest comprehensive orientation for these operatives in the state, their actions so far indicate that they are in dire need of further exposure in social relations and tenets of civility, ” the statement reads.
