Afenifere Leader Fasoranti Dies at 100, Aiyedatiwa Announces

Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced the death of the elder statesman in a statement personally issued on Tuesday.

The governor described Fasoranti as a revered leader whose life was defined by wisdom, integrity and selfless service to Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

Aiyedatiwa said the late Afenifere leader devoted his century-long life to the development of his state and the Yoruba nation, noting that his contributions to public life would remain indelible.

“With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of God, I announce the passing of our revered elder statesman, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who departed this world at the glorious age of 100,” the governor stated.

He described the deceased as a patriarch and a beacon of wisdom and integrity whose commitment to public service earned him respect across generations.

According to the governor, Fasoranti’s counsel, fatherly guidance and principled positions on justice and good governance would be greatly missed.

“He lived a fulfilled life and left indelible footprints of honour and legacy for generations to come,” Aiyedatiwa added.

The governor, on behalf of the Ondo State Government and its people, extended condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and residents of the state over the loss.

He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the elder statesman’s soul.

Fasoranti was a prominent figure in Yoruba socio-political affairs whose leadership of Afenifere placed him at the centre of discussions on the interests of the Yoruba people, democratic governance and Nigeria’s political development.

His death marks the loss of a leading voice in Yoruba affairs and a prominent elder statesman whose influence extended beyond Ondo State.

The family is expected to receive condolences from political leaders, traditional institutions and members of the public following the announcement.
