The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will commence the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to eligible registered voters across the country on Thursday as part of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday at a strategic engagement meeting with journalists in Abuja.

The exercise is expected to enable Nigerians who recently completed voter registration, transferred their voting locations or applied for replacement of damaged PVCs to collect their cards ahead of the elections.

Amupitan said the distribution formed part of the commission’s efforts to ensure that all eligible citizens are able to participate in the electoral process.

He also disclosed that INEC was strengthening the deployment of technology to safeguard the electoral process and prevent stolen, lost or compromised voter cards from being used by unauthorised persons.

According to him, the measures are aimed at protecting the integrity of voter registration and ensuring that only eligible voters participate in elections.

The INEC chairman also urged political parties and their supporters to conduct their campaigns and other political activities peacefully.

He warned against attempts to disrupt the campaigns, rallies or other activities of rival political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The commission urged eligible voters who fall within the categories covered by the exercise to take advantage of the distribution period and collect their PVCs through the designated channels.

INEC said the distribution was part of its broader preparations for the 2027 elections and its commitment to ensuring a credible and inclusive electoral process.
