UNIOSUN Gets New ICT Centre As Adeleke, Tinubu Governments Boost Digital Infrastructure

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) is set to boost its digital infrastructure as the institution commenced the construction of a new ICT Resource Centre at its Osogbo Campus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Odunayo Clement Adebooye, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the two-storey facility, which was donated by the Federal Government under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The project is expected to provide additional facilities for technology-driven teaching, learning, research and other academic activities, while strengthening the university’s capacity to meet the growing demand for digital skills.

According to a statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, the facility will comprise modern lecture halls, computer laboratories and other ICT-related facilities designed to serve students and staff.

Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony, the contractor handling the project, Engineer Ojo, said the centre would be equipped with facilities capable of supporting various academic activities.

Ojo said some of the lecture halls would be fully furnished and capable of accommodating about 100 students, while the computer laboratories would provide additional platforms for practical and technology-based learning.

He explained that the project formed part of the Federal Government’s intervention programmes aimed at improving critical infrastructure in tertiary institutions across the country.

Adebooye, while speaking on the development, commended the First Lady of Osun State, Mrs Titilola Adeleke, for her role in facilitating the project for the university.

He also appreciated the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the intervention for UNIOSUN.

The Vice-Chancellor described the project as a major addition to the university’s infrastructure, saying the facility would help prepare students and staff for the demands of an increasingly digital global environment.

Adebooye expressed confidence that the contractor would complete the project within the stipulated period and prayed for its timely completion.

He thereafter turned the sod to formally mark the commencement of construction work.

The project is scheduled for completion in February 2027 and is expected to complement existing facilities while further enhancing UNIOSUN’s capacity for ICT-driven teaching, learning and research.
