2027: Osun Voters Will Not Be Conquered, Accord Candidate Declares

The presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has declared that the people of Osun State will not surrender their political choices to intimidation or pressure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hashim, who described Osun voters as the “heroes” of the recently concluded governorship election, said their courage in the face of alleged violence and other challenges surrounding the poll demonstrated their determination to defend their democratic rights.

The Accord presidential candidate spoke while featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, anchored by Seun Okinbaloye, over the weekend.

He said the resilience displayed by voters across the state ultimately made the difference, particularly in a period when the reported killing of more than 40 people during the build-up to the election could have created fear and discouraged citizens from participating in the process.

Hashim, however, said rather than succumb to fear, the people of Osun remained resolute in exercising their franchise and making their political choices.

According to him, the development once again proved that the people of the state “are not conquerable.”

“Osun people have once again reaffirmed that they are not conquerable,” he said.

Hashim said the political courage displayed by Osun voters was rooted in the state’s history of taking independent political positions, even when such choices ran against prevailing political currents.

He recalled the 2011 presidential election, when Osun was the only state to record a victory for Nuhu Ribadu of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), describing the outcome as evidence of the state’s willingness to stand by its preferred political platform.

“This is what it means to be an Omoluabi,” Hashim said, stressing that the concept represented courage, integrity and the freedom to make independent political decisions.

The Accord candidate said the same spirit would, in his view, become a major factor in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that Osun voters would extend their support to the party across the ballot.

He predicted that Accord would receive the backing of the people in the presidential, National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections.

“I have no doubt that the people of Osun will stand with Accord in 2027. They have demonstrated repeatedly that they cannot be conquered or compelled to surrender their democratic choice.

“We are confident that Osun will vote for Accord at the presidential, National Assembly and State Assembly elections,” Hashim said.
