Osun Poly: Slain JCC Election Participant Was Not Our Student — Management

The management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, has clarified that Ademiju Ayeni, who was allegedly stabbed to death during the Joint Campus Council (JCC), Osun State election at the weekend, was not a student of the institution.

The Polytechnic, in a statement issued by its Registrar, Mr Abiodun O. Oloyede, said Ayeni was admitted into its part-time programme in 2023 but did not complete his studentship registration.

According to the statement, there was no record of Ayeni’s completed registration on the institution’s portal, which would have enabled him to sit for examinations and complete his National Diploma programme.

The Registrar said Ayeni had voluntarily withdrawn from the institution and left about three years ago.

The statement read in part: “Ayeni Ademiju, who was allegedly stabbed to death at the Joint Campus Council’s election, was admitted into the Part-Time Programme of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, in 2023, but he did not complete his studentship registration.

“There was no evidence of registration which could have enabled him to write his examinations to complete his National Diploma programme in the school. He left the Polytechnic about three years ago.

“We are perturbed to read in the social media about his death. He should not be described as our student.”

The management said it was concerned about reports on social media linking Ayeni’s death to the institution, stressing that his status should not be presented as that of a current student of the Polytechnic.

It would be recalled that Ayeni was allegedly stabbed during a heated argument at the NUJ Press Centre, Osogbo, where the JCC election was held on Friday.

His remains were reportedly deposited at a mortuary following the incident.
