Tinubu Applauds Rescue of 308 Kidnap Victims, Orders Stronger Early Warning Systems
President Bola Tinubu has welcomed the successful rescue of 308 Nigerians abducted in separate attacks in Kwara and Niger states, describing the operation as a significant milestone in the fight against insecurity.
The President commended the security agencies involved in the operation, which led to the recovery of 163 victims abducted from Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State and 145 others from Niger State.
The victims were rescued from the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State following a coordinated intelligence-led operation by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC), involving personnel from the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.
The operation was described as the largest single-day rescue mission carried out by the joint security team.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the leadership and personnel of the security agencies for their courage, coordination and commitment, which led to the safe recovery of the victims.
“The successful execution of this intelligence-led operation demonstrates the growing efficiency and collaboration among our security services. I commend our gallant men and women in uniform for their bravery and unwavering commitment to safeguarding Nigerian lives,” the President said.
The rescued victims are currently receiving first aid and medical attention at the medical facility in Wawa Cantonment.
According to a statement, they will be handed over to their respective state governments after completing medical evaluations for further care and reunification with their families.
While celebrating the safe return of the victims, President Tinubu stressed the need to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture to prevent future attacks.
He directed security agencies and relevant stakeholders to immediately improve early warning systems, deepen community-based intelligence gathering and enhance rapid response mechanisms across the country.
