Osun Guber Poll: SDP Denies Alliance With APC, Dismisses Viral Letter As Fake

The Osun State chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied reports that it has entered into a political alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing a letter circulating on social media as fake and unauthorized.

The party, in a statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Mr. Alao Jeremiah Adewole, said the document did not originate from the party and should be disregarded by members of the public.

According to the statement, the letter was allegedly signed by an individual falsely claiming to be the Osun State Chairman of the SDP, adding that the signatory was not authorised to speak for the party.

The party also dismissed claims that the purported correspondence emanated from its governorship candidate, Mr. Salawu Adeniyi Mustapha, popularly known as M.A., insisting that neither the candidate nor the party approved or endorsed the document.

“The Social Democratic Party in Osun State is not in any political alliance, merger or arrangement with the All Progressives Congress or any other political party,” the statement read.

Adewole described the circulating letter as the handiwork of “political jobbers and desperate elements” allegedly seeking to create confusion among voters ahead of the state’s forthcoming governorship election.

He urged party members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to ignore the document, maintaining that it does not reflect the position of the party.

The spokesperson said the SDP remains focused on its governorship campaign and expressed confidence in the party’s chances at the polls.

“The Social Democratic Party remains on the ballot and is fully prepared to offer the people of Osun State credible leadership. We urge our supporters to remain resolute and not be distracted by falsehood and political propaganda,” the statement added.

The statement was issued amid heightened political activities ahead of the Osun State governorship election, as political parties continue consultations and campaign preparations.
