UNIOSUN Lecturer Wins Prestigious International Travel Fellowship Grant
A lecturer at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), Dr Murtadha Adekilekun of the Department of Civil Engineering, has emerged as a recipient of the 2026 Travel Fellowship Grant awarded by the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.
The highly competitive fellowship comes with a grant of 4,000 US dollars to support an international research exchange programme, further strengthening the University’s growing global research profile.
According to a statement issued by the University Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji, Dr Adekilekun secured the prestigious fellowship for his innovative research proposal titled, “Optimizing Binder Chemical and Rheological Behavior for Climate-Resilient Pervious Concrete Using Agricultural Waste Ash and Recycled Aggregates.”
The research focuses on advancing sustainable construction materials and developing climate-resilient infrastructure solutions through the integration of environmentally friendly alternatives.
As part of the fellowship, the UNIOSUN scholar will undertake a three-month research visit at the Department of Safety of Structures, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM), Germany, one of Europe’s leading institutions in materials research and structural safety.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, described the award as a landmark achievement.
He said the feat reflects the quality of scholarship, innovation and global competitiveness being fostered at the University under its current administration.
Professor Adebooye commended Dr Adekilekun for bringing honour to the institution, adding that the achievement aligns with the University’s vision of producing impactful research capable of addressing critical societal and environmental challenges.
He reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting cutting-edge research, strengthening international collaboration and sustaining academic excellence.
The latest recognition further underscores UNIOSUN’s growing reputation as an emerging centre of excellence in engineering, innovation and sustainable development.
