2027: Incumbent Senator loses Osun APC senatorial ticket

– Say Ajagunla Should Be Treated Like Four Other Lawmakers

Leaders and stakeholders from Ila-Orangun in Ila Local Government Area of Osun State have called for an automatic re-election ticket for the incumbent senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District, Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi.

The leaders cited the senator’s performance, commitment to constituency development, and representation as reasons for their support.

Addressing a press conference in Ila, Adegboyega Buraimo — Obaafa of Ila, said the town has been sidelined despite its historic contribution to the progressive movement, calling on the leadership of the party to look into the matter for the sake of fairness

He called on the leadership of All Progressives Congress (APC) to automatically ceed the re-election ticket to their son, who is the incumbent senator representing Osun Central Senatorial district as being done for others lawmakers who defected to APC to strengthen the party and reconnect Osun Central to the ruling Government at the Centre.

He said: “The people of Ila-Orangun have remained silent for too long. Today, we speak—not out of anger, but in defence of fairness, loyalty and justice.

“Four years ago, when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared “Èmi Lókàn,” the sons and daughters of Ila-Orangun answered without hesitation. Under the leadership of our revered father and elder statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, we mobilised, we sacrificed, and we delivered. Ila people stood firmly behind the progressive movement that ultimately produced the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Our votes mattered. Our loyalty mattered. Our sacrifices mattered.

“Today, we proudly commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his maturity, leadership, commitment to truth and his enduring reputation as a leader who rewards loyalty and stands on the side of fairness. We remain confident that the President’s legacy will always be anchored on justice, equity and respect for those who stood by the progressive cause through thick and thin.

“It is therefore with deep concern that we observe what appears to be a departure from the spirit of fairness and gentleman agreement by Mr President that guided the integration of Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla and other National Assembly members into the APC.

“Senator Ajagunla left the PDP and joined the APC in good faith to strengthen the party and reconnect Osun Central to the ruling Government at the Centre. Alongside four other National Assembly member from Osun East, he declared interest in re-election to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

“Today, the four others have secured their return tickets under APC platform.

“Only Senator Ajagunla, our son has been subjected to a different standard, with various unwarranted provation and insult from various quarters.

“This raises a fundamental question:
Why should the rules change for one person at the last minute while agreed to be a concesus candidate under the instruction of Mr President and seconded by chief Bisi Akande.

“Senator Ajagunla has distinguished himself as one of the strongest grassroots mobilisers in Osun State. His record in education, youth empowerment, community development and party building speaks for itself. Across Osun Central, his performance has strengthened the APC and expanded its reach among the people.

“Our concern is not merely about one individual. It is about a growing perception that Ila-Orangun is being sidelined despite its historic contributions to the progressive movement.

“We respectfully submit that the leadership structure managing party affairs in Osun State under the stewardship of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola should reflect on the consequences of departing from established understandings and gentleman’s agreements that foster trust, unity and loyalty within the party”.

What was extended to the four should be extended to the fifth. What is good for four should be good for Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla. Reward loyalty. Respect performance. Honour commitments. Uphold fairness. History rewards those who keep faith with their allies.Justice strengthens party unity. Fairness guarantees victory”.
