Iran Executes Man Convicted Of Spying For Israel

Iran on Wednesday executed a man convicted of supplying information to Israeli intelligence, according to the country’s judiciary, marking the latest in a series of executions linked to the ongoing conflict with Israel.

Since the outbreak of hostilities involving Israel and the United States in February, Iranian authorities have intensified executions, especially in cases tied to alleged espionage and national security offences.

The Iranian judiciary’s Mizan Online website identified the executed man as Ehsan Afreshteh.

According to the report, Afreshteh was allegedly recruited and trained by Israel’s intelligence agency, Mossad, in Nepal before passing sensitive information to Israel.

The judiciary said he was arrested, prosecuted for espionage and collaboration with what Iran describes as the “Zionist regime,” and later sentenced to death.

It added that the sentence was carried out on Wednesday morning after being upheld by Iran’s Supreme Court.

The execution comes days after Iran hanged an aerospace engineering student convicted of spying for both Israel and the United States.

Rights groups have consistently ranked Iran as the world’s second-highest executioner after China.
