Osun Communities Decried Epileptic Power Supply, Appeals To Gov Adeleke
Some residents of Owode-Ede and neighbouring communities in Osun have decried the persistent epileptic power supply in their areas, despite several appeals to the relevant authorities for intervention.
Reports have it that the affected communities include ; Owode market area , Apete ; Odomburo, Idi-Ose ; Unique area , Durodola,; Oke -Alafia , and Ifetesiwaju, Kajola , Sumibare, Alaro, Apena, Oke Ayo, Agodo communities among others .
The residents in the affected areas described the situation as frustrating, saying the poor electricity supply had negatively affected businesses and domestic activities.
Speaking with newsmen on Saturday in Osogbo, some community leaders and residents appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and government authorities to urgently addressed the situation.
Mr Akolade Wakili,the chairman of odomburo community , said residents had been experiencing unstable power supply for three years and noted that the situation had caused hardship for artisans, traders and small business owners.
Wakili said several letters and appeals had been made to the electricity distribution company but there had been little improvement without solution to the continuous darkness in the populated areas.
He said that the situation is becoming unbearable for business to strive in the affected communities and appealed to the authorities concerned to come to Owode ede rescue .
According to him, residents are worried over the continuous blackout and low voltage being experienced in the area.
” The blackout had led to many business owners and investors relocating from Owode ede and also shutting down their business.
” We appeal to the state government to quickly find solution to what is on ground before it becomes something unbearable,” he said .
Also, Mrs Kemi Ajibola , a business trader at Owode Ede market , said the unstable power supply had increased the cost of running her business.
‘ Everything is now on the high side due to absence of electricity to power some perishable foods andnother things.
” We are tired and do not know what to do again and not everyone has the capability to purchase an inverter or solar inverter ,” she said
Ajibola complained about the unequal distribution of power mainly to those who have approached the electricity company to sustained their business to the detriment of millions residents in Owode ede communities.
She appealed to the electricity distribution company to urgently improve power distribution to the affected communities.
According to her , we cast our votes for these politicians and I wonder if they know we are passing through this mess despite all our appeals in written and physical contacts with their officials .
Also, Mr Francis Ezediuno , an online journalist and resident at Durodola area, expressed disappointed that despite repeated complaints and appeals, the electricity situation had remained unchanged.
Ezediuno urged Osun Government and IBEDC to work together to restore stable electricity supply to the affected communities in order to boost socio-economic activities.
