UPDATED: PDP Delegation Visits ADC In Solidarity Over Alleged Attacks On Opposition

A delegation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday visited leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja in a show of solidarity amid what both parties described as growing political pressure on opposition groups ahead of the 2027 elections.

The meeting, held at the residence of former Senate President David Mark, brought together prominent political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Seyi Makinde, Jerry Gana and Abubakar Malami.

The PDP delegation, led by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, said the visit followed the ADC’s recent protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Maitama over the derecognition of its leadership.

“What has been happening within the political space, the court and the protest today, we came to show solidarity and commit to a clean democratic space in our country,” Makinde said.

In a statement by its factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP said the visit was also prompted by what it described as increasing political attacks targeting opposition parties across the country.

The party noted that the development reflects a broader pattern affecting multiple opposition groups, adding that it has similarly experienced pressure in recent times.

According to the PDP, the situation highlights the need for vigilance to safeguard democratic principles and protect political plurality in Nigeria.

ADC leaders, who received the delegation, expressed appreciation for the visit and echoed concerns about threats to democracy, stressing the importance of collaboration among opposition parties to defend democratic institutions, even as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the claims and described the ADC’s internal crisis as self-inflicted.
