•Claims Teams Battling Relegations Due To Poor Welfare, Inadequate Support
The Osun State Football Association has called out the Deputy Governor,
who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi over the worsening conditions of the state-owned football clubs – Osun United and Osun Babes.
In a statement on Thursday, Osun FA said both state-owned teams are currently battling relegation in their respective leagues due to poor welfare, inadequate support, and declining operational standards.
“The Osun State Football Association has called on the Deputy Governor, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, to urgently intervene in the worsening conditions facing Osun United and Osun Babes.
“The Association warned that both state-owned teams are currently
battling relegation in their respective leagues due to poor welfare,
inadequate support, and declining operational standards,” the statement noted.
Speaking on the situation, the Chairman of Osun FA, Mayor Sola Fanawopo, emphasised the need for immediate and direct involvement.
He said, “It is important for the Honourable Deputy Governor to take a hands-on approach, visit the players’ hostels, inspect team buses, and attend matches to fully understand how critical the situation has become.”
He noted that the current state of player welfare has negatively affected
morale and performance, putting both teams at serious risk.
The Osun FA therefore calls for swift and decisive action to stabilise the
teams, improve welfare conditions, and preserve Osun State’s football
status.
It was gathered that Osun United is currently in the relegation zone on the Nigeria National League Table, occupying the 8th position.
