Demolition Accident Claims Foreman’s Life In Ondo Community
Residents of Ifesowapo Community in Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, were thrown into grief on Tuesday following the death of a foreman during a building demolition exercise.
The deceased, Mr Olu Bamgboye, popularly called Ologbo, reportedly lost his life while supervising the demolition of an old structure along the NTA Road axis of the community.
Sources said the building had recently been acquired by a property developer, who contracted Bamgboye to clear the site ahead of a new construction project.
Witnesses disclosed that the deceased, a vulcaniser by trade, mobilised a group of labourers to assist with the demolition work.
It was gathered that the exercise was nearing completion when a concrete pillar suddenly gave way and collapsed.
The pillar reportedly struck Bamgboye, killing him on the spot before help could arrive.
Residents said it took some time before his body was pulled out from the rubble, as the debris had trapped him.
A neighbour, Mr Tope Omosebi, described the incident as shocking, saying the late Bamgboye was a peaceful and hardworking man whose death has left the community in deep sorrow.
