Gunmen Kidnap Couple, Injure Neighbour In Iluabo Attack
Gunmen on Friday night abducted a couple, Mr Jamiu Olawale and his wife, at Olaribigba Estate in Iluabo, Ondo State.
The attack occurred at about 9:45 p.m. on February 20, 2026 as the victims were returning from their shop in an ash-coloured Toyota Camry.
The assailants reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and struck at the frontage of the couple’s residence.
The attackers subsequently forced the couple into captivity and took them to an unknown destination.
In the course of the incident, a neighbour, Mr Patrick Ilumaro, who was seated in front of his residence, was struck by a stray bullet.
He was promptly conveyed to hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the abduction when contacted.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, had deployed tactical teams in collaboration with conventional operatives to comb the surrounding bushes and adjoining areas. The move, he said, is aimed at rescuing the victims unhurt and apprehending those behind the attack.
He added that efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of the abducted couple and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Command urged residents to remain calm and go about their lawful activities, while appealing to members of the public to provide credible and actionable information at the nearest police station to aid ongoing investigations.
