Osun: Stop Raising False Alarm, Ogungbangbe Tackles APC ALGON Chairman
President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Osun State, Comrade Kehinde Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, has condemned what he tagged as “false alarm” raised by the All Progressives Congress Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Abiodun Idowu, accusing him of plotting to disrupt peace in all the local government areas.
The ALGON Chairman had in a statement alerted security agencies to hold the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the state, Comrade Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, responsible for any breakdown of law and order across the 30 local government areas and the Ife-East Area Office, Modakeke.
The warning was contained in a statement by Hon. Abiodun, who said the alert followed actions by the Ogungbangbe-led executive capable of undermining the peace enjoyed at the grassroots since the reinstatement of council chairmen and councillors.
Reacting, NULGE President, Ogungbangbe who dismissed the allegation in its entirety said union ordered its members to stay off the councils when the crisis started in order to protect them.
“Following the resumption notice given by our union( NULGE), we read with dismay and surprise, a publication made by one Mr Abiodun IDOWU claiming to be the Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria, (ALGON) Osun State.
“While we are not in a position to contest his chairmanship claim, Osun State NULGE under my leadership as the President is quite alarmed, dismayed and flabbergasted by the spurious allegations made by him against our Union.
“However, we are quick to state and note that our OSUN STATE NULGE will and must always be out to protect the interest of our members and that is the main reason why we have been staying away ab initio from the LGs since February this year when the brouhaha started.
“Surprisingly and shockingly too, while we are of the strong conviction that the LG imbroglio is going to be settled through constitutional means, we are constrained to note and condemned the action of the so called Abiodun Idowu led ALGON to continue to shamefully lay claim to what has no no justification by forcefully laying claim to the leadership of the Councils which is at variance with the dictates of the law regarding the on going impasse in OSUN LG imbroglio.
“As an inference to Mr Idowu’s false claim from the frivolous press statement made by him, it should be made known to the public as it is known to Mr Idowu and his co travellers that their purported tenure as Council Chairmen and Councillors has expired since Oct. 2025.
“For the avoidance of doubt, let’s quote one of the excerpts of the Press Statement made by IDOWU for the public and Stakeholders to read which in turn will elicit pertinent questions for the purported Abiodun Idowu led ALGON in OSUN STATE to answer
“For the avoidance of doubt, our occupation of council Secretariats is legal, constitutional and legitimate. Our tenure determination suit is still in court and until its final determination, we are still the Chairmen and Councillors across the 30 LGAs in Osun State. ”
“Above is the legal basis upon which Mr Abiodun Idowu and his people want to use to continue to occupy our LGs in OSUN STATE. The pertinent question here is this ; Abiodun Idowu and his people know that their tenure has ended which informed why they, accordingly, approached the Federal High Court for tenure elongation . For now, is there any interim injunction for them to remain in the Council Secretariats as they are erroneously but deliberately laying claim?
Our answer to this question is none..
“Another pertinent question for the IDOWU led usurpers of LG councils to answer is ; Since they admitted that their tenure has ended which has made them to approach the court and which the court has not yet determined, is he and his team saying that iif that case is not determined in the next five years, they will continue to occupy all the LG councils ? The answer is NO..
“In this scenario,, Abiodun Idowu and his co-illegal occupiers of the third tier of government in OSUN STATE should swallow their pride and ego by desisting from doing the unthinkable and illegal action they are presently embarking on .
“On this note ,we implore and urge Abiodun Idowu’s team to go back to court for expeditious determination of their case and if they succeed, there and then they can constitutionally be empowered to come back to the Council Secretariats.
“One does not need to be a lawyer to know that until a court of competent jurisdiction gives an order, whatever anybody or group is laying claim to is not only spurious and illegal but null and void which is therefore of no effect .
“Further more, mere filing a case does not give one the impression that one must succeed in that case. It could be to the contrary.
“Osun State NULGE under my leadership as the President is therefore saying that there’s no basis whatsover for Mr IDOWU and his people to continue to forcefully occupy our local governments in OSUN STATE.
“To this end, OSUN state NULGE is urging and appealing to all Stakeholders in our dear state that we are not and should not expect Abiodun Idowu led team to be in our LGs until the court says so after the determination of the suit they have filed in the Federal High Court
“On the part of our workers, peradventure the Abiodun Idowu led team come to the various Councils as they are planning to, we urge you, as usual, to remain calm and peaceful and should you witness any act of provocation which they may likely resort to, report to the law enforcement agencies accordingly.
“OSUN STATE NULGE is equally using this medium to reinstate its resolve for all our workers to go back to our duty posts on Monday, 5th January, 2026.
“We are equally calling on all Stakeholders especially our dear traditional rulers to caution Abiodun Idowu and his men not to cause any break down of law and order in OSUN STATE”.
