Lawyer, NANS Demand Justice Over Murder Of Ondo Varsity Students
A prominent lawyer and community leader, Tolu Babaleye, has condemned the abduction and murder of two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), describing the incident as a betrayal of trust and a tragic stain on the town’s peaceful reputation.
Recall that Ondo State Police Command revealed the victims were abducted, one of them sexually assaulted, and both subsequently murdered.
In a public statement issued on Friday, Barrister Babaleye expressed shock over the incident, describing it as a “dastardly and evil act” that must not go unpunished.
“This act is not only a betrayal of trust but a dark stain on the peace-loving and hospitable reputation of our dear community,” he said. “Akungba must remain a sanctuary for learning, not a hotspot for terror.”
Similarly, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) also condemned the killings, demanding immediate and uncompromising justice for the victims.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Adeyemi Ajasa, the association described the crime as both “barbaric” and “devastating,” insisting that any form of violence against students must never be tolerated.
“This barbaric act is not only heartbreaking and disturbing but also a stark reminder of the persistent and unacceptable threat to the lives and safety of young Nigerians striving for education and a better future,” the statement read.
Both Babaleye and NANS called on security agencies to intensify investigations and ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
