The State Secretariat of the Action People’s Party (APP) situated along the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State has been gutted by fire.

The incident which occured in the early hours of Monday reportedly was caused by a detonated dynamite, with the loud explosion heard around 1 a.m.

While the individuals responsible have not been identified as of the time of filing this report, the incident is believed to be related to the ongoing leadership crisis within the state.

Sources disclosed privy to the development said the dynamite was allegedly set off by suspected political thugs and has left extensive damage to the building shattering windows, doors, and other properties.

The explosion also damaged the ceiling and interior fittings, leaving the party’s leadership and members in shock.

This development comes amidst rumours of the state’s Governor Siminialayi Fubara plans to defect to the APP along with his supporters, following claims that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has been taken over by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

A member of the party who gave his name simply as Chimene said: “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today.

“This is politically motivated and there is no two ways about it. They know that the APP is a fast-growing political party in the state. We call on the police to investigate this and arrest the culprits. “
