The Osun Civil Societies Coalition (OCSC) has warned Nigerian politicians against derailing the country’s democracy for their selfish interest and inordinate ambition.

According to the OCSC, Chief Adebisi’s Akande’s statement on president Muhammadu’s health is a clarion call on Nigerians to be watchful and guide the country’s democracy jealously.

The group in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Waheed Lawal and Publicity Secretary, Ismaeel Uthman on Tuesday warned political leaders and manipulators in the current polity against subjecting the democratic institutions to anti democratic forces indirectly.

“Politicians and manipulators in the polity might be indirectly subjecting the democratic institutions to anti democratic forces because of their greed, lust for power and inordinate ambition when President Muhammadu Buhari is incapacitated by sickness”, the group stated.

The group called on the Presidency to disclose the health status of the president, saying that Nigerians deserve to know what is happening to their president.

The statement reads in part: “The president is a human being and was not a sick person when Nigerians elected him. Like other human being, the president can fall sick anytime. However, his health status should not be covered; it should be made known to Nigerians that put him in power.

“If the president is critically ill, he should take time to attend to his health and he should be allowed to do that by the people surrounding him. That is the best thing to do for him.

“We warn politicians against exploiting the health of the president for their selfish interest and inordinate ambition. They should not derail the Nigeria’s democracy; our democratic institutions must not be subjected directly or indirectly to anti-democratic forces.”
