Osun 2018: The Turning Point
By Ibraheem Alli
Of what moral justification is political exercise without a competent, worthy and credible candidate? Proffering adequate panacea have knocked respective political parties, navigated political actors jostling for the coveted seat of the number one citizen of Osun State in 2018. The political market is constipated, flooded with goods, both sellable and expired as adjudged and dusted by yester failures of the repackaged falsehood political juggernauts.
The intra political dithering is gaining momentum, with profound emasculation of few party front-runners for Osun guber seat next year most especially in the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC). The political entombment that greeted the appointment of the local government caretaker committees across the 30 and 31 local development areas was a pointer, even to the blind. The entr’acte of 2017 and 2018 will be full of intrigues, betrayal of trust, entropy, political digging and entrenchment of seemingly preferred caucus of the system. Most disturbing is the entrée awarded to the Lagosians by the power that be. Registering displeasure, the home base re presumably resolved to prevail and form their own intra party alliance irrespective of former political class.
The appointed committees, as learnt and analyzed by prominent political judges were adjudged the stalwarts of a caucus of the ruling party in the state. They predominantly hold the party structure lies in the hand of a soloist, the umpire and preside, Ogbeni himself. It was learnt, that the appointees were selected from the camp presumably loyal to Abere, the state government house. Who owns Abere today? I asked, are they expecting Mr. Governor to appoint his political jilters? But the popular feedback was that there were many loyalists but their affiliate caucus or sentiment towards next year guber exercise was the certificate for neglect. I responded in a jiffy “THE TRUNING POINT TO 2018”. To me, the appointment was nothing but a language, visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. The last resort of vocal confrontation is loading and will be thrown during the manifestoes especially the primaries. There are camps within the camp, within and within within. Time will speak at the climax. But who knows, if there will be denouncement especially in the ruling party in the state.
Recently, the wiring of the executive cabinet members to the state legislators by Ogbeni was another mega political language and a turning step ahead 2018. It is an empowerment in earnest for his preferred candidate and castration of intra party camps in cold war with Abere. Many care to know why Akere could not make the list. Why the insiders were not unaware of the lingering bickering between the duo and few others. Some party members lamented the exclusion of the adjudged two most actives commissioners in his defunct cabinet. Overtly or covertly, the ball has crossed the bar while Ogbeni himself has crossed the Rubicon. But who knows, if there will be addendum to the list? If there will, can people from the other room of the same building make the list?
The worshippers of the umbrella in the state, the die-hard cohorts and ardent lovers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are continuously nursing the same wound without clear path. They are suffering but smiling as if there houses were in order. Can a house that divide against itself ever stand? A fruitful Saturday should start beaming its light since Friday. I doubt the credibility of the party to question the authority of the ruling party in the state should they unceasing nursing dislocated leg. There is no earlier any more, the longer their house mending, the wider the shame. Is there any preparation? The answer is left for political actors more involved and not to an aspiring journalist like Alli. The broom, either of construction or destruction is launching actions towards the poll, the umbrella should as well track a direction ahead 2018 and halt been dormant.
As a novice dancer but with dancing pen, I shall be unceasing in my political judgement of the unfolding terrain in the State of Virtue.
