Osun, Oyo SDP strategise to Unseat APC, PDP in South-West
Segun Adeyemi, Osogbo
Leaders of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun and Oyo states have begun moves to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which is controlling two states in the South-West.
The leadership of the party in both Osun and Oyo state held a meeting at the state SDP Secretariat, along Osogbo-Ikirun road, Osogbo, Osun state where they concluded the party needed to speed up and intensify efforts on making the party more popular and acceptable to the people as alternative to the APC and PDP.
The meeting had in attendance the Osun state Chairman of the party, Chief Ademola Ishola and members of his Executive Committee, while Oyo delegate was led by the party’s gubernatorial candidate in the last general election, Mr. Seyi Makinde.
Speaking at the meeting, Makinde stated during the parley that only SDP could bring “true change” to Nigeria, calling on members of the party to work together towards achieving the goals of the party.
Makinde said: “With what I have seen in SDP in Osun state, I know we are prepared to chase away APC and Rauf Aregbesola out of Osun in 2018, and we are ready to bring a party with a clear vision and mission to govern this state with all sense of responsibility.”
According to him, every positive thing would be done to ensure that SDP takes over the entire South-West from the APC and PDP, saying that the party was the only better alternative for the Yoruba nation and Nigeria at large.
Makinde commended members of the Osun SDP for their continuous mobilization of more members into the party, stating that both Osun and Oyo states members of the party would join forces in the 2018 governorship election in Osun to win the state.
In his remarks, the Osun SDP chairman, Ishola reiterated the commitment of his party members towards their efforts to win more people across the 30 local governments of the state to its fold, disclosing that the numerical strength of the party had increased in the just concluded congress of the party.
He said: “I want to say that APC has no reason to remain in power in Osun, because our people are already frustrated with the way Ogbeni Aregbesola is ruling the affairs of this state.
“Our education system has collapsed; the economy is down and we are being fed with lies everyday-by-day by the people in government.
“The same thing is going on in Oyo; Governor Abiola Ajimobi has not done better and Governor Ibikunle Amosu has not done enough. We need to work together to take over Ondo in 2017, Ekiti and Osun in 2018 and Oyo, Lagos and Ogun in 2019. We can achieve this!
“We have called for Aregbesola’s resignation and we still stand by that because he has failed in all aspect of governance.”
Delegates from the two states agreed that the meeting should be continuous and expanded to the remaining four states of the South-West.
