UACC Celebrates Life, Legacy Of Mama Florence Owoyemi

Dignitaries and well-wishers from various walks of life across the globe gathered in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State at the weekend to honor and celebrate the life of late Mama Florence Wuraola Owoyemi, who passed on recently at the age of 86.

The funeral ceremony, served as both a farewell and a celebration of her remarkable contributions to her family and the community.

In a statement from UACC Media Director Paul Erakhifu, who attended the service, the deep impact of Mama Owoyemi’s life was highlighted.

According to the statement, she passed away on August 12, 2024, leaving behind a legacy as a devoted Christian who dedicated her life to spreading the gospel.

Affectionately known as “United,” Mama Owoyemi never held an official position in the church, yet her unwavering support for God’s work and her generosity towards the less fortunate were widely recognized.

The statement added that in 1965, she famously sang a song titled “United Kekere,” which prophetically envisioned the future growth of the United Apostolic Church of Christ, noting that her vision became a reality during her lifetime.

The statement read: “Though she never held a formal title, Mama Owoyemi was the mother of Rev. Dr. James Bayo Owoyemi, the President and General Overseer of UACC Worldwide.”

“She is survived by a thriving family, including her children, Deaconess Grace Funmilola Ogundeji, Mrs. Caroline Mopelola, Deacon Engr. Clement Owoyemi, Dr. Pastor Ademola Owoyemi, Dr. Deaconess Esther Ilori Ayeni, Mrs. Sarah Abiodun Aluko, and Mary Adejoke Akinpelu as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rev. Dr Bayo Owoyemi expressed his gratitude, stating that his mother played a significant role in his success.

“Mama taught me to read, understand, and love everyone with fairness and equity,” while pledging to uphold her legacy of love for God and humanity.

Rev. Dr. Owoyemi further extended special thanks to Rev. Mrs. Adesomi Adeola, UACC Director of International Affairs, for traveling from the United Kingdom, as well as Pastor Babalola Famuyide from Italy.

During the Thanksgiving Service, UACC General Secretary Rev. Joseph Eniola Oluwatuase delivered a sermon on the theme, “Love Covers All Sins,” urging families and church members to live in harmony and love. He referenced 1 Peter 4:8 to underscore his message.

People in attendance included, UACC General Superintendent, Rev. Ogunlade, and various church leaders, who all gathered to celebrate Mama Owoyemi’s life.

The UACC Mass Choir provided uplifting gospel music throughout the wake and thanksgiving service, enriching the atmosphere of remembrance and celebration.
