FCT: Elections Will Begin 8:30am As Stipulated – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has guaranteed and assured the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, voters that the Area Council election will commence by 8:30am as stipulated.
The Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, FCT INEC, Samuel Bassey, gave the assurance on Friday during an interview on Arise Television.
The FCT Area Council election is scheduled for February 21, 2026 (today) with INEC expressing readiness to conduct free, fair and credible elections.
“I guarantee and assure FCT voters that the polls will commence at 8:30am as stipulated,” he said.
According to him, materials and personnel have already been transported overnight to prevent late commencement.
Bassey noted that the initiative aims to largely eliminate delays, guaranteeing that polling will begin on time as stipulated by guidelines.
The FCT INEC HOD of Voter Education and Publicity further stated that with the initiatives put in place, late commencement had been significantly addressed, if not eliminated.
