There was a new and significant dimension to the political trajectory of Ogun State on Monday, 13th April, 2026, which of course changed the dynamics as well as every permutation in the state’s polity. It was the unanimous endorsement of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus candidate of the governing All Progressives Congress(APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

The APC’s strategic caucus meeting, where Governor Dapo Abiodun announced Yayi as the candidate of the party was a convergence of diverse political interests and a mixture of age-long political foes and allies, all gathered under one roof and pocketed their pride for one man.

That Ogun State is a tough political arena is indeed an understatement, the state parades some of the most cerebral and sagacious gladiators in the political space of Nigeria, alongside very sophisticated and conscious electorate; hence, the historical relevance of the strategic caucus meeting of Monday.

It was particularly this special place of Ogun, within the comity of states that gave the endorsement of Yayi that huge publicity, as it quickly became a national conversation that centred around robust political mechanism and strategic planning.

Asides the context of the meeting, the effects of it’s outcome in the state was thunderous, which cut across party affiliations, ethnicity and social status. The people’s response to the announcement simply confirmed that the preponderant of the electorate have been waiting for Governor Dapo Abiodun to make such an announcement.

Without mincing words, the endorsement intrinsically came like a declaration as the Governor by the electoral umpire for Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi, he has without doubt made history as a political giant with rare grace, a unifier without contestation and a man of the people.

The Senator is lucky to have worked alongside a perfect gentle man like Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is by all standards an Omoluabi par excellence and a selfless leader with requisite native intelligence and intellectual capacity to listen, dissect issues critically and make sound decision.

The import of Governor Abiodun’s speech at the event unequivocally indicated undiluted conviction of a leader to lead from the front in the struggle ahead with profound confidence in the capacity of a man he wants to succeed him.

As a shrewd politician and juggernaut of repute, Senator Yayi will not disappoint anyone among his supporters and leaders alike, his antecedents right from the private sector to the public office remain an unimpeachable evidence of his consistency and reliability.

There is incontrovertible evidence that Senator Yayi is meticulously grounded, with unwavering attention to details and listening capacity for diverse opinions. Obviously, he wouldn’t derail from the path of progressive policies of his party, as embarked upon by the present administration in the state.

His over two decades of parliamentary experience and exposure place him on the right footing to closely and cordially work with the state’s parliament and bring about masses-oriented legislation that would better the lives of the people the more and engender speedy development.

Yayi’s financial acumen and dexterity give him satisfactory and necessary capacity to push the financial status of the state further, in the way Governor Dapo Abiodun commendably did it, which put the state in the second position in the area of Internally generated revenue across the country.

By the level of sensitivity and compassion Senator Solomon Adeola has displayed, the welfare and wellness of the people would be his topmost priority at all times, he has convincingly exhibited that tendency in the past and he wouldn’t change his way.

The APC’s gubernatorial hopeful is a man with great exposure, his cosmopolitan background right from Lagos is a huge advantage for the state in the quest of sustaining this present tempo of industrialization, as Ogun remains the leading light and unarguably the industrial hub of Nigeria .

There is no doubt that the Senator will hit the ground running and take it further from where Governor Dapo Abiodun stops by attracting more investors into the state and optimally utilize the comparative advantage of location the state enjoys.

Like Governor Dapo Abiodun, there is no doubt that Yayi is a man of peace, despite the prevailing murky politics of Nigeria, the financial guru has maintained a very decent image devoid of acrimony and controversy of any form, definitely, he will sustain the level of peace in the state and never take the state back to ‘Egypt’.

One of the selling points of Senator Adeola Yayi is his strength and penchant for community engagement, he communicates easily with every strata of the society without discrimination of any kind, it is obvious that he will take it further in the saddle as a grassroots leader who understands the plights and aspirations of his people at all time.

The traditional institution remains the harbinger of our tradition and culture, everyone believes in the wisdom of Senator Olamilekan Adeola to manage and respectfully engage this institution as a way of promoting and preserving this our heritage which clearly defines us as truly Omoluabi.

Like the way Plato analysed the fundamental and integral quality of a Philosopher King in his book’ The Republic ‘ where he recommended a man whose strength resides in his head as one that qualifies to be king, Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi is the man with that required strength of leadership that rightly domiciled in his head, as he comes with avalanche of knowledge, skills and courage to lead from May 29, 2027.

Congratulations, Gbogbo Omo Ogun!
