Osun Decides: Voters Raise Alarm Over Slow BVAS, Inadequate PWD Facilities in Olorunda

Voters at Ward 1, Unit 24, located at Islahudeen Secondary School in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, have expressed concerns over the slow pace of accreditation during Saturday’s governorship election.

Several voters at the polling unit attributed the delay to the use of a single Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) device to process the large number of eligible voters.

Some voters said the slow accreditation process could discourage participation, particularly if the situation persisted as the voting period progressed.

The voters also raised concerns over the lack of adequate support facilities for Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), saying the arrangement at the polling unit did not sufficiently cater to voters with special needs.

An election observer with the Nigeria Women Trust Fund, Aminat Oderinwale, also expressed concern over the situation, noting that the absence of appropriate assistive tools was making the voting process more difficult for persons living with disabilities.

As of the time of filing this report, voting was still ongoing at the polling unit, with voters calling for improved logistics and a more accessible electoral process to ensure that all eligible citizens can participate without unnecessary difficulties.
