Osun Decides: ADC Alleges Assassination Attempt On Party’s Candidate, Salaam

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that its governorship candidate, Dr Najeem Salaam, escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday shortly after casting his vote at Ward 4, Unit 13, in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State.

In a statement issued by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Abosede Busayo Oluwaseun, the ADC alleged that the incident was led by a suspected political thug identified as “Big Hammer.”

According to the statement, Salaam was quickly whisked away from the scene by concerned residents who reportedly intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.

The party claimed that the intervention of residents helped avert what it described as a potentially tragic incident, adding that the incident allegedly disrupted voting at the polling unit.

The ADC also alleged that electoral irregularities occurred during the incident, saying the development had raised concerns about the integrity of the voting process in the affected area.

The party condemned the alleged attack, stressing that electoral contests should not become a threat to the lives of candidates, voters, party agents or other participants in the democratic process.

“Democracy must never become a battlefield, and no Nigerian should have to risk their life simply for exercising their constitutional right to vote,” the statement said.

The ADC called on security agencies and other relevant authorities to immediately investigate the incident, identify those responsible and take steps to guarantee the safety of voters, party agents and candidates across the state.

The party further assured its supporters that Salaam was safe and remained committed to his governorship ambition.

“Dr Najeem Salaam is alive. He remains resolute in his bid to rescue Osun from the shackles of bad governance,” the statement added.
