The National Director, Media & Publicity of Project Beyond 2023, Comrade Adeboye Adebayo has stated in clear terms that the dragging of former president Goodluck Jonathan into the APC presidential ticket race will not in anyway affect the chances of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in clinching the ticket of the APC on Sunday.
In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, Adebayo said the Asiwaju Project Beyond 2023 is not perturbed in any way by the court judgement that clears Jonathan to contest for President in 2023 or the waiver granted him by the leadership of the party.
“For us in the project, we are not perturbed, we are not weary, we are just focused and glue our eyes on the ball but this assurance statement is very necessary because our office has received numerous calls this afternoon from our members, followers, well wishers, admirers and believers of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu expressing worries and anxiety on the recent development in our polity. We are using this medium to express our profound commitment to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s presidential ambition and to allay any fear or agitation in the mind of our people that dragging Jonathan into the race by few elements within APC will not in anyway affect the chances of our Principal, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to clinch the ticket on Sunday” Adebayo said.
According to him “Politics is a game, life itself is a battle, they are playing their games, we are playing ours too, we are ready for this battle because it is not for us alone but for the emancipation of the Nigerian masses who deserve to enjoy dividends of democracy and good governance in their life time. Come to think of it, we are not aware when exactly Goodluck Jonathan becomes a card carrying member of our party, we are not aware when he secured waiver to obtain nomination form in the first place not to talk of when he submitted it. That aside, if the party gives waiver to anyone they like including Jonathan today, the person must pass through the process of the primaries, we don’t know any party member or delegate who Jonathan has campaigned to seek their votes & support or is it possible for the President or party Chairman to just impose him as our party’s candidate and hell will not let loose” Adebayo queried.
“Serious contenders have been going around the country to seek support and votes from the delegates and those that matter within the scheme of things in the polity since January, so how do you ask such people to step down for a Jonathan that our party massively defeated for his bad governance in 2015, or how do you convince Nigerians that Jonathan they voted out in 2015 is now their messiah, it is unthinkable” Adebayo said.
The Project then call on President Muhammodu Buhari and the leadership of the party to be wary of some desperate members of the party so as not to allow them to destroy the party and its achievements so far so as not to disappoint Nigerians.
“In any case, our Principal, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is focused as he continues to seek votes and talk to the delegates ahead of the primaries on Sunday, about what he can offer to change the fortune of the country for good and how he intends to ensure that adequate reward mechanism is in place for committed and loyal party members in the final analysis. Politics is a game of number and we have the numbers and by the special grace of God, victory is sure, all this issue of Jonathan, for us is a distraction, a joke taking too far, Nigerians are not daft, they are not morons, in fact, discussing Jonathan has reduced our party to a joke” Adebayo concluded.
