Various allegations of subversion of the electoral processes in the coming elections have been levelled against the Oyo state chapter of the ruling party by the People’s Democratic Party.

The PDP Presidential Campaign Coordinator for Oyo State,Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran who briefed the press on Wednesday in Ibadan alleged that the top echelons of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state is being threatened and intimidated to do the unlawful biddings of the ruling party.

“APC was alleged to have approached Resident Electoral Commissioner,Barr. Mutiu Agboke to do their biddings and was harassed and threatened that if he did not do their biddings he would be transferred out of Oyo state.

“This is a very undemocratic issue and we cannot ignore the matter,Dr.Adeniran said

He further alleged that contrary to the directive that sensitive election materials should be returned to CBN “the governor insisted that they should be returned to government house.

“Although it was resisted by INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, the fact that the effort was made by the governor makes it bad enough for our democracy at this auspicious time, theCoordinator said.

“Allegations of outright thumbprinting at the government house since last week has not been refuted up till now.We demand investigation since our campaign council was inundated with calls from different quarters-,he added.

He called on the staff and REC and other relevant agencies who are saddled with one responsibility or the other for the forthcoming elections not to succumb to any pressure to carry out any illegal activity that could truncate this democracy.

Answering questions, the Coordinator called on security agencies to discreetly investigate all allegations going on in the state adding that in every rumour, there must be some elements of truth.

Efforts to reach any of the spokesmen of the government were fruitless as of the press time.
