Nigerian Moses vs Modern Pharoah By Abdulhakeem Adegoke Alawuje
There is virtually no one in Nigeria today who doesn’t know the Pharoah of our generation.
From Orji Uzor Kalu in the East, Abiye Sekibo and Asari Dokubo in the South-South, Sani Abacha and Ibrahim Babangida in the North, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Obafemi Awolowo, MKO Abiola and Bola Tinubu in the Southwest, they will be unanimous in their answer that no other person best fits the title of the ‘Pharoah of Our Time’ than Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
OBJ is a notable Agbako Agba (Big Pharaoh) of Nigeria in Yoruba land. He is more feared than respected by family members (sons, daughters and wives) friends, associates, workers and the likes. No wonder he is fondly called the Ebora of Owu (the Demon of Owu).
Endeavour to give a listening ear to workers in Obasanjo Farms and get inundated by tales of woes. What of Femi and Iyabo Obasanjo, don’t even go there. Consider his childhood friends like Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Chief Sunday Afolabi; his political associates nko: Tafa Balogun (IG), Atiku Abubakar, Orji Uzor Kalu and so on, the gory tales won’t be different. Those in the opposition party like Bola Ige, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will surely have volumes of stories to tell. And if you come home to ask from his kinsmen like Obafemi Awolowo and MKO Abiola, the story of the only man who knows and can identify the Messiah Nigeria needs won’t be different.
These two kinsmen of Obasanjo – Awolowo and Abiola are the prospective Moses of yesteryears but the contemporary Phroah let them down and worked against their interests. Obasanjo, despite being the luckiest Yoruba man to have ruled the giant of Africa, both as a military ruler and a civilian leader, has noting positive to show for it. When the chips are down, OBJ is not even regarded as a notable Yoruba leader, he is rather renowned and feared as a serial betrayal of common cause.
Today, and the modern Pharoah is also promising to thwart and abort the messianic mission of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the man whose antecedents signal as the Moses of our time!
While statesmen and past leaders of progressive countries of the world are frantically striving to get brilliant brains who will out-perform them in power, our own Obasanjo out of envy, mischief and pathological hatred for anything progressive is struggling to foist misfits on the nation, like he did in the past.
Or how do one describe a man who annointed Goodluck Jonathan and turned his back against his political son just before he could complete the four-year tenure. The situation got so bad that the gentle Jonathan had to describe the Demon of Owu as a motor pack tout. Obasanjo was to later support his ‘arch enemy’ Muhammadu Buhari against his political son. Characteristically, within a span of three year, OBJ resorted to writing his alusi (needless) letters, concocting lies of Islamisation and Fulanisation against the Daura-born General, just as he lied against Jonathan of training snippers ahead of 2015 poll. Obasanjo quickly turned against the Mai Gaskiya and unbelievably adopted Atiku Abubakar who he described as evil and the most corrupt, and had sworn never to support. Obasanjo’s endorsement of Atiku was done with the most controversial clerics of our time. One is a defender-general of the Bandits and the other, a tribalist who once ordered that the blood of the Fulani herdsmen be shed anywhere they are found. Again, within a span of four years Obasanjo wrote another alusi letter endorsing his likes – the betrayal of Emeka Odumegbu Ojukwu. The most tribalistic and chauvinistic Peter Obi was thus endorsed by Obasanjo against his former VP, an enemy turned friend. The question on the leaps of many is – what has changed. What has happened to the endorsement of Atiku that was witnessed by two notable clerics.
Consequently, some have alleged that Obasanjo was mere doing all these because of envy, saying he wants the world to recognise him as the only outstanding leader of our time.
Obasanjo is naturally wicked and politically dangerous. He believes in the rule of the jungle – the survival of the fittest; and the second rule where big fish eats smaller fish to survive!
Nigerians must remember that it wasn’t easy for Moses to conquer the Pharaoh of Egypt, hence, they should not expect an easy ride to victory. Just as Moses later ended Pharaoh’s reign of majesty, Obasanjo’s constant shenanigans will surely to an end.
Only a nation or a country that is specially favored by God will allow a personality like Asiwaju Tinubu to lead them at this auspicious and opportune time, but unfortunately, ignorance, tribalism and religious sentiment have blinded many, particularly the internet rats on social media.
For the love of the nation, Nigerians must unite to retire the Agbako Agba and support Tinubu – the Moses of our time – to liberate the land from underdevelopment.
We must all realise that it was within the same 1999 and 2007 when Obasanjo laid the foundation of today’s national woes that Tinubu took over the affairs of Lagos State and succeeded in liberating the State financially, making it the 5th largest economy in Africa. It’s that same period that the Obasanjo did everything to frustrate and destroy Tinubu.
For sure, the same God who graciously made Tinubu as governor of Lagos State to overcome the suppression, oppression and denials of Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007 will certainly spare his life for the onerous task to liberate Nigeria. 2007 will certainly spare his life for the onerous task to liberate Nigeria.
