Police Tactical Commanders Receive Lectures On Human Rights, Illegal Detention
Tactical team leaders of the Nigeria Police, Cross River State command are currently receiving lectures in Calabar on imperatives of police-civilian relationship.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Rashid Afegbua is the lead speaker at the two day event holding at the police officers’ mess.
The Commissioner is lecturing all the tactical team commanders and their men drawn from all formations across the 18 local government areas of the state.
The PRO, ASP Sunday Akata said, “The Commissioner of Police is lecturing the tactical commanders and their men on fundamental human rights, torture, illegal detentions, and other vices.
“It is part of the ongoing efforts by the state command to retrain its personnel, sensitise them on ethical and professional conduct in line with international best practices.”
It will be noted that members of the public have several times accused the police personnel of unwarranted practices such as torture, extortion, demanding for bribes, bail money.
The Command has also held a shooting range exercise in Akpabuyo LGA of the state to train officers on weapon handling.
