Osun Central Must Align With Centre, Senate Majority for Effective Representation

Comrade Adeboye Adebayo has argued that Osun Central Senatorial District should align with the political centre and the majority caucus at the Nigerian Senate in order to strengthen the district’s ability to attract attention, negotiate effectively and pursue development opportunities.

Adebayo stated this while speaking on Saalim FM during a programme focused on the 2027 presidential and Osun Central Senatorial elections.

According to him, the argument is not simply about partisan loyalty, but about understanding how political power operates and positioning a constituency to engage effectively with the centre.

He said a senator’s responsibility is fundamentally different from that of a governor, stressing that while a governor operates an executive structure with an approved state budget, a senator must depend significantly on lobbying, negotiation, advocacy and strategic relationships to advance constituency interests.

Adebayo therefore questioned the value of deliberately isolating a senatorial district from the political majority controlling the federal government when representation at the National Assembly requires constant engagement with federal institutions.

He said Osun Central needs representation capable of taking the constituency’s demands directly to the centre and negotiating for federal projects, programmes and opportunities.

“The senator does not have a ready-made allocation sitting in front of him. He must lobby. He must negotiate. He must build relationships and know how to get things done at the centre,” Adebayo said.

He argued that political alignment should therefore be considered from the perspective of what it means for effective representation and access to federal decision-making.

Adebayo also maintained that representation should not be judged merely by the ability to occupy a legislative seat, but by the capacity to speak, negotiate, influence and follow through on issues affecting constituents.

His comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with the Osun Central Senatorial District emerging as one of the closely watched contests in the state.

Adebayo said the central question for voters and stakeholders should ultimately be how prospective representation can translate political access and legislative influence into tangible attention for the constituency.
