Late Actor Chief Kola Oyewo To Be Buried August 7
Late veteran actor, Chief Kola Oyewo, will be laid to rest on Friday, August 7, 2026, as his family has announced a three-day funeral programme ahead of his burial.
In a statement issued by the Balogun Oyekola Oyewo Memorial Committee, the burial activities will run from Wednesday, August 5, to Friday, August 7, 2026.
According to the statement, the wake-keep and service of songs will hold on Wednesday, August 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife. This will be followed by a Commendation Mass on Thursday at the same venue.
An exhibition of the late thespian’s works and photographs will also hold from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Pits Theatre, African Studies Building, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, after which an Artistes’ Night featuring tributes and cultural performances will take place at Oduduwa Hall, Obafemi Awolowo University.
According to the committee, the deceased’s remains will be conveyed to his hometown, Oba-Ile, on Friday, August 7, at about 7:00 a.m.
The lying-in-state ceremony is scheduled to hold at the Ese-Ola Compound at about 9:45 a.m., followed by a Requiem Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oba-Ile, at 11:00 a.m.
The committee stated that the interment, which is strictly for family members and close associates, will take place at Labaluyege Villa, Oba-Ile, at about 12:45 p.m., while a reception will follow at Aderounmu Grammar School Field, Oba-Ile, by 1:00 p.m.
