ALGON Calls For LG Authorities, State Govs’ Collaboration To Accelerate Grassroots Dev
The Acting National President of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Iliyasu Zakari, has called for enhanced collaboration between local government authorities and state governors to accelerate grassroots development across the country.
Zakari made the appeal while speaking during a familiarization visit by ALGON leadership to the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, His Excellency AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, at the Governors’ Forum Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday 22/4/2026.
It was gathered that the ALGON leader, accompanied by Board of Trustees Chairman and other members, emphasized the need for stronger institutional synergy to deepen grassroots empowerment, promote economic growth, and improve service delivery at the local level.
According to Zakari, ” The collaboration between the local government chairmen and governors is crucial to achieving the objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and should be adequately supported through coordinated efforts with state authorities to deliver meaningful development.” he stated.
He revealed that the visit underscores ALGON’s commitment to building a strong and productive relationship with state governors, whom he described as fathers and key partners in driving grassroots governance.
Zakari further reiterated the readiness of local government chairmen to work closely with governors, noting that such collaboration is essential to deepening grassroots empowerment and achieving sustainable development.
“We are here to identify with our parents the governors and to assure them of productive collaboration as the third tier of government.
“Our first point of call after our inauguration should be the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and that is why we are here”.
Responding,AbdulRazaq assured the ALGON delegation of the Governors’ Forum’s willingness to strengthen partnerships that would enhance governance outcomes at the grassroots.
He stressed the importance of cooperation among all tiers of government in addressing socio economic challenges and improving the welfare of citizens.
