King Charles Praises Nigeria’s Cultural Influence And Diaspora Impact On Britain
Britain’s monarch, King Charles III, has praised Nigeria’s growing global cultural influence and the significant contributions of Nigerians living in the United Kingdom, describing them as a vital bridge strengthening ties between both countries.
Speaking during a state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the King highlighted the impact of Nigerian culture, entertainment, and professionals on British society.
Reflecting on his first visit to Nigeria 36 years ago, Charles said many Nigerians he might have encountered then have gone on to shape British society in diverse ways.
“From Afrobeats filling our concert halls and Nollywood captivating our screens, to stars competing in our Premier League and adjudicating our highest courts, so much of Britain’s culture is, in truth, profoundly enriched by Nigeria,” he said.
The monarch noted that Nigerians living in Britain, alongside Britons with ties to Nigeria, form a strong human connection between the two nations.
According to him, the Nigerian diaspora of more than half a million people continues to strengthen cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and security collaboration between both countries.
“They all represent a living bridge of over half a million people who connect our nations and help make our cultures richer, our shared security stronger and our economies more prosperous,” he added.
Charles also described Nigeria as an economic and cultural force with a young and dynamic population positioned to play an increasingly important role globally.
