Osun Moves To Tighten Security, Approves Joint Task Force

● Adeleke Govt Pledges Logistics Support

● Police, Other Agencies Put on 24-Hour Alert

Amid recent security alerts, the Osun State Government has approved the creation of a Joint Security Task Force aimed at enhancing intelligence gathering, rapid response and protection of lives and property across the state.

The government said it would provide the necessary logistics to enable the new security arrangement to commence operations effectively.

The decision followed a State Security Council meeting convened by Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday and presided over by his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi.

The meeting, according to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi,
brought together the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, and other heads of security formations in the state.

Adewusi, who represented the governor at the meeting, conveyed Adeleke’s appreciation to the security commanders for their efforts in confronting recent security challenges.

He urged them to remain vigilant and sustain their operational efforts in the face of emerging threats.

The Deputy Governor said the Adeleke administration was committed to providing further support for security agencies, while also urging traditional rulers to continue their contributions to security surveillance and community-level intelligence gathering.

The council also moved to reassure residents following the recent alerts, saying the state government and security agencies were taking measures to safeguard the people.

However, residents were urged not to become complacent, with the council specifically calling for increased vigilance around places such as churches, mosques and schools.

It also appealed to members of the public to promptly relay useful security information to law enforcement agencies, stressing the importance of intelligence sharing in preventing attacks.

As part of the new measures, the Nigeria Police and other security agencies were directed to maintain a 24-hour red alert to respond to threats allegedly posed by terrorists and bandits.

The council further approved closer collaboration between the state Ministry of Justice, the Police and the DSS to ensure that suspects arrested in connection with security-related offences are properly investigated and prosecuted without undue delay.

The meeting, which lasted several hours, also featured commendation for CP Zungura over policing reforms reportedly introduced since he assumed office and his personal attendance at the security council meeting.
