BREAKING: Makinde Declares Presidential Bid, Reveals PDP-APM Alliance
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election while calling for a reset of Nigeria’s political and governance system.
Makinde made the declaration at a mega rally in Ibadan while announcing an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM).
He said Nigeria’s current political and socio-economic challenges required urgent citizen engagement and stronger unity among opposition parties.
Makinde further expressed concern over what he described as the declining fortunes of the country, insisting that Nigerians must move from being passive observers to active participants in governance.
He also criticised the state of political opposition in the country, urging greater collaboration among parties to strengthen democracy.
The governor announced that the PDP–APM partnership would field candidates across all levels, from the presidency to state assemblies, describing the coalition as a “grand alliance” aimed at national renewal.
He added that the agreement represented a “political handshake” designed to reshape the country’s leadership structure ahead of the 2027 elections.
Makinde concluded by formally declaring that the alliance would serve as a platform for broader national reform efforts.
