El-Rufai Appears In Court As Legal Battle Over Alleged Fraud Continues
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Tuesday appeared before the Kaduna State High Court for the continuation of proceedings in his alleged fraud case.
El-Rufai, who also served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), arrived at the court amid ongoing legal proceedings relating to allegations of corruption and financial misconduct against him.
Before entering the courtroom, the former governor was seen exchanging pleasantries with Isa Kudan, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Kaduna State.
Tuesday’s appearance comes amid ongoing legal disputes over El-Rufai’s detention and his unsuccessful attempts to secure bail in the Kaduna State case.
His bail bid was recently rejected by the Court of Appeal, which dismissed his challenge to the lower court’s decision refusing to release him.
The case also comes against the backdrop of controversy surrounding a medical report reportedly submitted in support of his application for release.
Earlier, Justice Darius Khobo fixed the next hearing for noon and directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which has custody of the former governor, to produce him in court for the continuation of proceedings.
El-Rufai is facing allegations bordering on corruption, financial fraud, abuse of office and money laundering. The allegations remain subject to judicial determination.
