Ekiti 2026: Court Voids PDP Guber Primary, Orders Fresh Poll
A Federal High Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti has nullified the governorship primary conducted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2026 Ekiti State election.
In a judgment delivered by Justice Babs Kuewumi, the court ordered the PDP to conduct a fresh primary in accordance with its guidelines.
The ruling followed a suit filed by one of the aspirants, Prince Funso Ayeni, who challenged the exercise over alleged irregularities.
Ayeni told the court that the delegate list approved for the primary was manipulated on the day of the election, undermining transparency and internal democracy.
The court held that the process violated the PDP constitution and the Electoral Act, describing the conduct of the primary as a gross abuse of procedure.
Reacting to the judgment, the PDP South-West Zonal Publicity Secretary, Mr Sanya Atofarati, said the party would explore all legal options, including an appeal.
He added that the ruling would not halt the PDP’s preparations for the June 20, 2026, governorship election, noting that mobilisation and campaign activities were already ongoing across the state.
