The Osun State Police Command has summoned the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Sen. Francis Fadahunsi, over threatening comments during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ilesa.

CityMirrorNews reports that Senator Fadahunsi had reportedly come under intense scrutiny after a video of his remarks circulated widely on social media, with critics accusing him of making comments that could be interpreted as a call to incite violence against members and supporters of the Accord Party.

The development comes amid heightened political tension in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial election, with concerns mounting over inflammatory rhetoric and the possibility of violence during the electoral process.

In an invitation dated Tuesday, August 11, 2026, the police directed the senator to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Osogbo at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12.

The letter was signed by Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State.

According to the police, the invitation was intended to enable Fadahunsi to clarify the circumstances surrounding the remarks attributed to him at the campaign event.

“The invitation is premised on information in possession of the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned programme, you made statements considered to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature, and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter stated.

The police action follows widespread reactions to the senator’s remarks and comes as political parties intensify their campaigns across the state.

Authorities are expected to establish the context of the comments and determine whether they constitute an offence under applicable laws.

The invitation does not, in itself, amount to a finding of guilt against the senator.

The development has further drawn attention to the responsibility of political actors and their supporters to avoid statements capable of heightening tensions or threatening the peaceful conduct of elections.
