2027: Ex-Lawmakers Launch SWAGA 2.0, Begin Tinubu, Hamzat Grassroots Campaign In Lagos

Former lawmakers under the aegis of the South West Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) are set to regroup in Lagos for the launch of “Lagos SWAGA 2.0,” a mobilisation platform aimed at galvanising grassroots support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also declared its support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, as it seeks to mobilise support for his emergence as successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The initiative, according to the organisers, is designed to consolidate the political structures of SWAGA across the state and deepen engagement with communities in support of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In a statement issued by the Lagos SWAGA 2.0 Steering Committee on Thursday, the formal inauguration of the group’s zonal, Local Government (LG) and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) structures will take place at the Eko FM Multi-Purpose Hall, LTV Compound, Coca-Cola Bus Stop, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.

The event, tagged “LAGOS SWAGA 2.0: Consolidating Grassroots Mobilisation and Deepening Political Engagements for the Renewed Hope Agenda,”, according to the statement signed by Hon. Afis Olaseinde Kasumu on behalf of the Steering Committee of Lagos SWAGA 2.0, is expected to mark a fresh phase in the group’s political mobilisation across Lagos State.

The organisers said the initiative would strengthen political structures at the grassroots and ensure that the policies, programmes and achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda were effectively communicated to residents.

The statement said: “Since its inception, SWAGA has been at the forefront of championing visionary leadership and political inclusion. Building upon the monumental successes of its initial phases, SWAGA 2.0 shifts its focus toward deepening community engagement, fostering inclusive governance, and creating a unified front ahead of future political milestones.”

SWAGA, which played a prominent role in mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2023 presidential election, said it was now repositioning its structures to sustain grassroots engagement and campaign for the President’s re-election.

The major highlight of the event will be the swearing-in of newly appointed zonal coordinators and local administrators, comprising former legislators who served at both the Lagos State and federal levels.

The new coordinators and administrators are expected to drive the organisation’s advocacy and mobilisation efforts while serving as links between the leadership of the movement and the electorate across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas and 37 LCDAs.

The organisers said serving and former federal and state government officials, political leaders, APC stakeholders, community influencers and grassroots mobilisers from across the South-West were expected at the event.

The event is expected to be chaired by the Lagos State SWAGA Chairman, Hon. Mosuru Owolabi, with other notable personalities, including Hon. Funmilayo Tejuoso and Hon. Remi Adebowale, a former Special Adviser on Civil Engagement to the Lagos State Governor, also expected to attend.

The Steering Committee said the mobilisation would focus on consolidating the group’s structures, strengthening political engagement at the community level and creating a unified platform ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement added that the newly inaugurated leaders would be responsible for mobilising communities and communicating the group’s political message across the various wards, LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State.

It called on political leaders, party stalwarts, community influencers, grassroots mobilisers and other stakeholders to participate in the event.
