A fire outbreak on Wednesday gutted a building at Kagarawal Quarters, opposite the District Head’s residence in Gombe, destroying property estimated at ₦10 million.

The incident occurred within the operational coverage of the ATM Fire Operations Base.

The Federal Fire Service, Gombe State Command officers, led by Assistant Superintendent of Fire Waziri James Anthony, were deployed to the scene.

Confirming the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASF Bashir Mu’azu, said the team arrived promptly after receiving a distress call and succeeded in containing the blaze before it spread to adjoining structures.

“Our officers responded swiftly to the distress call and were able to contain the inferno before it escalated into a major disaster.

“Through timely intervention, we successfully salvaged valuables and prevented the fire from spreading to adjoining structures,” Mu’azu stated.

He commended the professionalism of the firefighters, noting that their quick action helped minimise further damage.

The Command advised residents to prioritise fire prevention measures and report incidents promptly to avoid large-scale destruction.

“We call on members of the public to always take proactive safety measures and promptly alert the Fire Service at the first sign of any outbreak,” Mu’azu added.

Recall that in January, fire gutted a residential building, destroying no fewer than 28 apartments in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The fire started in one of the apartments at about 2 am and quickly spread to adjoining apartments before engulfing the shops.
