Terrorists Invade Niger Community, Kill 5, Burn Houses, Abduct Many
No fewer than five villagers have been reportedly killed and many others injured following the invasion of the Baga community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State by suspected terrorists.
These attacks are coming barely 24 hours after the Deputy Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba, led other top government functionaries to the ancient town of Gussoro in Shiroro LGA to console with families of the late Gagacin Wajen Gussoro, Late Shugaba Adamu Mamman.
New Telegraph gathered that the Baga community was attacked by the terrorists on Tuesday morning, abducting unconfirmed persons, prompting villagers to flee as their houses had been set ablaze.Online news portal
A man from the community who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “Over 160 terrorists invaded Baga early this morning and have been burning houses using explosives. As at now this evening, the Baga community is on fire with rising thick smoke”.
Our Correspondent gathered that at least eight vigilantes have been injured and hospitalised in attempting to confront the terrorists, but were outnumbered.
Speaking to Journalists after the condolences visit, he urged the villagers to remain vigilant and united against threats.
According to him, “what is being spent to restore peace is enormous, but we cannot disclose everything. The major problem we have is those who create unity and act as informants”.
Earlier reports had it that the terrorists had on Monday rustled many cattle from Nada village in Shiroro local government, but apparently lost their route before finding themselves in the Baga community.
Confirming the incident, the Niger state Police Command said the Bandits invaded Bagana village and later moved to Erena village on Monday, 7th, April about 6:30 am.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, “information received indicated that two vigilante members and a driver from the joint security team lost their lives during the attack, while some others were injured.”
He further disclosed that a joint security team in the area mobilised and engaged the Bandits who eventually escaped.
