Media personality Frank Edoho has opened up about his exit from the iconic Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? show, clarifying that he left because of sponsorship issues, contrary to claims that he was sacked.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the KK Show, Edoho described reports that he was dismissed by the show’s sponsor as false.

Edoho, who hosted the programme for 13 years, revealed that the show initially ended after its 10-year sponsor withdrew support following a regulatory penalty.

He explained that the Federal Government had fined the sponsor over a corporate matter, resulting in a financial burden that forced the company to end its involvement with the show.

The veteran broadcaster also disclosed that he sought a stake in the programme after learning that new sponsors were interested, believing his years of hosting had made him an asset to the brand.

“I went into negotiation because we heard that other sponsors were interested, and I wanted to be an executive producer. I wanted to have a stake in it because I felt that I had built myself up to the extent that I was an asset to the show,” he said.

However, Edoho said the negotiations collapsed over disagreements, and his absence from the relaunched show under a new sponsor fuelled speculation that he had been dropped.

He maintained that reports claiming he was sacked were false, describing the experience as a betrayal after years of dedication to the programme.
