Photos: Gov. Mutfwang Officially Joins APC
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The governor formally joined the ruling party on Friday during a stakeholders’ meeting, where he was presented with his APC membership card, sealing weeks of political speculation over his next move.
The event was attended by top APC chieftains, including former Plateau State Governor and Senator, Simon Lalong, Senator Diket Plang, and House of Representatives member Yusuf Gagdi, among others.
Mutfwang’s defection comes days after he tendered his resignation letter from the PDP, dated December 29, 2025, in which he cited the need for an alternative political platform to enable him deliver purposeful leadership and effective governance in Plateau State.
In the letter addressed to the PDP chairman of his Ampang West Ward, the governor expressed gratitude to the party for providing him the opportunity to participate in the democratic process but said prevailing realities necessitated his exit.
Although the resignation letter did not initially disclose his new political destination, APC officials had earlier confirmed ongoing consultations with the governor.
Following his formal entry into the party, the APC National Working Committee welcomed Mutfwang, describing his defection as a major boost to the party’s strength in the North-Central region.
Party leaders at the meeting pledged full support for the governor, assuring him of cooperation as he continues to pilot the affairs of Plateau State under the APC platform.
