Tragedy! 21 Kano Athletes Killed In Bus Crash While Returning From National Sports Festival
Tragedy struck in Kano on Saturday as 21 Kano athletes returning from National Sports Festival (NSF), Ogun state, died in an auto crash in Kura Local Government Area, Kano, 50 kilometres away from Kano city.
Ado Salisu, a Sports journalist who accompanied the group said 19 died on the spot, while three were later confirmed dead at the Kura General Hospital.
The athletes who survived the crash, have been transferred to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention following a directive by the state government.
Our Correspondent learnt that the vehicle, conveying about 35 passengers, swerved off a bridge at Dakstalle town.
The vehicle was almost approaching Kano, after travelling from Ogun all through the night when the incident occurred.
The ill-fated bus was the last one returning from Ogun, out of eight vehicles that left Kano for the National Sports Festival in Ogun state.
The fatal accident has sent shockwaves across ancient commercial city of Kano.
