House Agent Docked For Allegedly Swindling Client
A house agent, Achile Hassan, was on Thursday arraigned in a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly swindling his client of N210,000.
The agent, Hassan, of Dape Life Camp Abuja, was charged with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Mrs Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mr Okoeroego Uche, of Akaraka Gawgwa road, Abuja, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 14.
Nwachukwu alleged that the defendant on April 25, criminally deceived and collected N210, 000 from the complainant, with a promise to secure a good self-contained apartment for him in Dape village.
She alleged that the defendant collected the money from the complainant and refused to secure the apartment or refund the said money but converted it to his personal use.
The prosecutor added that all efforts by the complainant to recover the said money from the defendant proved abortive.
She said that during police investigation and interrogation the defendant made a confessional statement. The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum. Jobbo ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 2, for hearing. (NAN)
