Police Arrest Gunrunners Using NANS-Plated Vehicle In Osun
The Osun State Police Command has arrested four suspected gunrunners along the Osogbo/Ilesa road while they were transporting ammunition in a private vehicle bearing a National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) license plate.
The suspects—Kehinde Adewale (25), Ayuba Adebayo (22), Abeeb Olasupo (23), and Mustapha Adeniyi (21)—were intercepted on June 24, 2025, around 8:30 p.m. by the Commissioner of Police’s surveillance squad during a stop-and-search operation.
Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters, Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Gotan said the suspects were travelling in a Toyota Camry with registration number “Presidency NANS 27ZD” when they were apprehended.
“Although they claimed to be students, a thorough search of the vehicle uncovered an English Beretta pistol, two empty magazines hidden inside a box, a cutlass, and criminal charms,” Gotan disclosed.
He added that investigations revealed the suspects had been terrorising communities in Ilesa and Osu.
In related developments, the CP announced the arrest of two electricity cable vandals, with police recovering seven motorcycles, two large sacks filled with IBEDC cables, and two saw blades.
Also, two suspected cultists were arrested for the killing of a rival gang member in Osogbo. Police recovered three Beretta pistols and two unregistered motorcycles used during their operations.
