Osun: Lawyer Laments Delay In C-of-O Issuance

A legal Practitioner in Osun , Mr Oyekunle Abass , has appealed to Gov. Ademola Adeleke to sign the piled up certificate of occupancy (C-of-Os) abandoned in the state for 12 years in order to aid economic development and increase internally generated revenue in the state.
Abass, who said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Monday in Osogbo, said some residents of the state had been waiting the governor’s signature to enable them embarked on large scale business plans on such lands.
He said that some states like Lagos state and Oyo state were exceptional by signing such documents within a month and also generating some money to the state coffers which Osun must emulate .
”Ministry of Land in the state had visited most of the lands with C-Of-Os and the recent administration inclusively is yet to sign such pilled up documents to enable full ownership of such lands.
”I bought a land in ejigbo in 2007 and between 2011 and 2012 , I applied for C-Of-O with the intent that the document will get to me within the expected stipulated time.
”The land ministry went to inspect it , approved it and it was processed up to the stage for the then governor of the state to sign including the immediate past governor,Mr Adegboyega Oyetola before they left office “, Abass said .
According to him, the present administration of gov. Adeleke called me that I should come and sign some collums of the documents because of the former governors’ names since 2012.
”Gov. Adeleke has not signed any C-OF-Os since his inception as the governor and that is not acceptable constitutionally.
”My right has been trampled upon and I have taking a step legally on the matter . We are asking for Mandamus order to compel the governor to signing the pilled up C-Of-Os at their corridors.”
He further said that those behind the C-OF-Os issuance needed to be checkmated due to the high bidders syndrome which they considered for such documents without the due processes .
Abass ,however ,said legal steps is on to ensure that Mandamus order is granted by a competent court of jurisdiction in ensuring that right things are done by the present administration.
